In DT we have been looking at winding mechanisms. We began by experimenting with the resources to see if we could create a working mechanism. After we designed our own toys in our books, thinking carefully about the resources needed and how the final product would look. Then we started the process of creating the structure for the toy, our character and the mechanism before putting them together. Finally we reviewed our product by writing one thing we were very proud of and what we would have done next time to make it even better.

In English we have been working on the topic of cats, so have used a few stories to help us with our writing. From these stories we have written lots of description on the cats involved and have also written letters and postcards. With "The Tiger and The Jackal", we made Wanted posters for the Tiger before predicting and writing our own endings to the story.

At the end of our four week topic of Hope, Peace and Remembrance, the children took part in a peace tea to celebrate the end of WW1. To prepare for the event the children helped to make biscuits and decorate them as well as making their own flags to wave at the tables. Whilst eating the biscuits they made everyone enjoyed joining in with some war songs which we had been learning. We then went outside to take part in some games which the children of WW1 would have played.

In Year 2 we have been learning about WW1, focusing on our topic of Hope, Peace and Remembrance. We have enjoyed playing the games the children would have played during the war, and have loved looking at some of the artefacts from WW1. We have also been very creative by making our own versions of Claude Monet's "Poppy Field".

In Year 2 we have been learning about The Great Fire of London. We had a very exciting visit from Samuel Pepys who told us all about the Great Fire and what happened in 1666.

Year Two have been exploring different winding mechanisms and have created their own wind-up toy in DT.

Bread Recipe! If you would like to have a go at baking bread at home here is the recipe!

Year 2 have been finding out about Harvest festival in RE. We followed instructions to bake our own bread and shaped it into different symbols! We had great fun making the dough and baking the bread. It looked and tasted amazing!

 

Mrs Hone made a special harvest loaf which is a symbol of harvest festival in churches.

 

We were luckily enough to have a taste of the harvest loaf! Yum!
